New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees was sharply criticised by fellow high-profile athletes, including one of his own teammates, on Wednesday after the Saints quarterback reiterated his opposition to kneeling during the national anthem.
In an interview with Yahoo, Brees was asked about former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick's 2016 protest of police brutality against minorities, in which Kaepernick and many other players knelt during the national anthem before games.
Brees said he disagreed with the protests, believing they were disrespectful of the American flag and military
In an emotional video post on his Instagram account, outspoken Saints defensive back Malcolm Jenkins ripped Brees for not understanding the true purpose of the protests and said of his teammate "I can't let this slide".
