NFL CBA proposal approved as penalties for consuming marijuana reduced
The NFL CBA proposal has made some key changes to its traditional drug testing policies. The proposal has eased the repercussions due to marijuana use.

NFL Players Association (NFLPA) have anunced that players have voted to approve new NFL CBA terms. With NFLPA approving labour terms, new deal is reportedly set to run at least till 2030. One of key inclusion in new approved CBA proposal is updated policy regarding use of marijuana by players.

According to statement released by league, under approved CBA proposal, re will be a significant reduction of penalties for Tetrahydrocannabil (THC - one of identified cannabiids in marijuana).

Some of or key changes to drug policy are reducing testing window from four months to just two weeks at start of training camp and an increase in threshold for a positive test - 35 to 150 nagrams and violations for possession 'generally will t result in suspension'.

legal status of marijuana has continued to expand across United States. 11 states have already legalised use of marijuana while ar 15 have decriminalised recreational use of drug. Last year, marijuana was decriminalised by US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee at federal level.

With fellow leagues like NHL and MLB adopting new drug policy, pressure on NFL was at an all-time high to update its traditional drug testing policies. NFL finally responded by updating drug violation protocols that would lead to a suspension.

NFL's collective bargain agreement has been labour negotiations between team owners and NFLPA. new CBA proposal, which should be in effect from 2020/21 NFL season, was approved with a 1019-959 majority on Saturday night (Sunday IST). Per CBA proposal, league format is set for an overhaul as it reportedly contains an option to increase regular season to 17 games starting from 2021/22 season. upcoming season, however, could see introduction of 14-team playoff system (previously 12).
