According to Nick's website, his journey began when a close friend of his - Kevin Webber - was diagnosed with terminal prostate cancer. His current record contains 193 United Nations recognised sovereign unions and three unofficially recognised countries. He was smart about his record as he ran in places that could be recognised in the future as well. For example, he ran in both China and Hong Kong. Among the many figures which have been reported about Nick's entire journey, some are - 201 flights, 45 train journeys, 15 bus journeys and 280 taxis.
