Washington Redskins apparel taken down by Nike as pressure to rename mounts on NFL team
Nike pulled out Washington Redskins apparel from its website on Thursday. The pressure to drop 'Redskins' from the name of the NFL team is now growing.

In wake of ongoing Black Lives Matter movement in United States, pressure has steily mounted on NFL franchise Washington Redskins to drop 'Redskins' from ir name. word has been deemed racist towards Native Americans. Amid increasing pressure on Redskins, sports apparel giants Nike appear to have removed all Redskins merchandise from its website.

Washington Redskins apparel removed from Nike websites
Nike, who is NFL's official gameday uniform supplier, sold shoes and sideline apparel along with Redskins' official merchandise. NFL p on Nike's website longer shows Washington Redskins in sidebar, where or 31 teams continue to remain listed. shopping filters on p also omit Redskins while search bar does t show any results for Washington. It remains unkwn when Nike took down Washington Redskins apparel from its website.
Nike pulling out Washington Redskins apparel from its website occurred after news broke last week that letters were sent to Nike, FedEx and PepsiCo demanding y end ir business relationship with NFL team. According to Week, "three separate letters signed by 87 investment firms and shareholders worth a collective $620 billion was sent to Nike, FedEx and PepsiCo." letter urged three brands to terminate ir relationship with Redskins unless team agrees to change its controversial name.

'Washington Redskins rename' nda has been circulating in and out of media for past few years. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has so far been amant that side will t drop 'Redskins' from ir name as he associates it with history of franchise. franchise has carried name Redskins since 1933, one year after its inception in 1932. Snyder told USA Today in 2013: "We'll never change name. It's that simple. NEVER - you can use caps."

However, amid increasing backlash, Daniel Snyder might have to reconsider his position, especially if it could have financial implications on franchise. On Thursday, FedEx responded to aforementioned letter by asking Washington Redskins to consider renaming franchise. FedEx bought naming rights of Washington's stium, FedEx Field, in 1998 for a reported $205 million. delivery service company has naming rights of Redskins' stium through 2025 season. PepsiCo is yet to respond to reported letter from investors and shareholders.
