Yoshiro Mori, Tokyo organizing committee President and Toshiro Muto, Tokyo organizing committee CEO, spoke to the press after their telephone conference with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) executive board earlier.

"There were no such talks at all (of cancelling). As I said before, on the assumption that it will be carried out as scheduled, we will establish safe and secure structure," said Muto.

Tokyo organizers say that the torch relay will also be carried out as planned but how they will carry out the event is yet to be decided. Muto hopes to be able to announce specific details at least a week before the events.

Restricting the entrance of spectators to the celebration venue or asking visitors along the road to cooperate to prevent the spread of infection are some measures that are being considered.

"I'm not god, so I don't know," Mori said when asked by when a decision to cancel the games will be made if it comes to such circumstances. "Isn't what you have to think and say about March 26th and what happens after July 10th different? You also have to think about how the coronavirus situation will change."

The Olympic flame is set to arrive from Greece on March 20th and the torch relay will begin on March 26th throughout Japan.
