BREAKING | Yogesh Kathuniya Secures Silver for India in Men’s Discus Throw at Paralympics 2024

At the Paris Paralympics, Yogesh Kathuniya's best attempt of 42.22m helped him secure a silver medal finish for the country in the Men's Discus Throw F56 Final.

India have officially extended their medal count to eight after Yogesh Kathuniya does the job for India at the Paris Paralympics. The para-discus thrower has clinched a medal for India in the final of the F56 discus throw event. India secured their first medal in Day 5, courtesy of Kathuniya.

India's para-discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya has won the 8th medal for India after he stood second in the Men's Discus Throw F56 Final. At the Paris Paralympics, Kathuniya's best attempt of 42.22m helped him secure a silver medal finish for the country. India now has 1 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals at the Paris Paralympics so far, taking the total count to eight.

The Haryana-born 27-year-old para-athlete was able to bag the second spot with his best shot of 42.22m. Kathuniya recorded the throw his first attempt, and he followed that with 41.50m, 41.55m, 40.33m, 40.89m and 39.68m. This is Yogesh's second silver medal after he did wonders in the Tokyo Games with a throw of 44.38m, which earned him his first paralympic medal. Yogesh finished with a season's best performance at the ongoing Paralympic Games.

Brazil's Claudiney Batista dos Santos registered a hat-trick of Paralympic gold medals, creating a new Games record with an effort of 46.86m in his fifth attempt. Greece's Konstantinos Tzounis won the bronze with 41.32m.

The F-56 is a seating field event class for differently-abled athletes. People with amputations and spinal cord injuries take part in this classification.
