'Honour and Privilege': Manu Bhaker Reacts After Being Named India's Flag Bearer At Closing Ceremony

Two time medallist at Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker has been named as India's female flag bearer for the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 11th.

Manu Bhaker has enjoyed an extremely successful Paris Olympics campaign as she won two Bronze medal for India in Women's 10m Air Pistol and Mixed 10m Air Pistol. In doing so, Manu Bhaker became the first Indian athlete to win two medals in a single Olympics for Independent India. 

Given Manu Bhaker's historic performance at Paris Games, India Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed that the shooter will be India's female flag bearer at the closing ceremony on Sunday, August 11th. Manu Bhaker was delighted at the honour of being India's flag bearer and shared her gratefulness to the world.

Manu Bhaker humbled to be India's flag bearer 

Manu Bhaker's Paris Games ended in a heartbreak as she missed out on an historic third medal by a whisker. However, her two medals are no mean feat and the IOA had confirmed that Manu Bhaker will be India's female flag bearer at the Closing Ceremony while no word was out on who will be the male flag bearer for the nation.  

Bhaker was honoured to be named India's female flag bearer and took to X and wrote, “It is an honour and privilege to be named as India's flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony of the Paris Olympics".

She further marked that leading the Indian Contingent when the entire world will be watching is a moment she will take home for the rest of her life and is incredibly humbling.

"Leading the outstanding Indian contingent with the tricolour in my hands with millions around the world watching is a truly humbling opportunity and one that I will cherish forever,” wrote Manu Bhaker

Bhaker gleaned with pride at the oppprtunity to lead India, “I am grateful to The IOA for considering me worthy of this honour, and I look forward to raising the Indian flag with immense pride. Jai Hind,” signed off Bhaker. 

Manu Bhaker at 22-years of age is already a two time Olympic medallist and post her defeat in women's 25m pistol, Bhaker pledged that she would come back stronger than ever in the LA Olympics in 2028 to win her third medal.
