In a heart-wrenching outcome for India, Mirabai Chanu narrowly missed securing a bronze medal in the women's 49kg weightlifting event at the Paris Olympics 2024, continuing the nation's streak of finishing just off the podium.
Despite a valiant effort and impressive lifts totaling 199kg, Mirabai Chanu fell short by a whisker, placing fourth in the highly competitive event at the Paris Olympics 2024. The result adds to India's "No. 4 curse," leaving fans and the Indian contingent disappointed.
Mirabai Chanu is 6th Indian who has finished 4th in her event at Paris Olympics. A total of six medals missed because of 4th + 1 gold because of disqualification.
The 29-year-old, who won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, managed a total effort of 199kg (88kg+111kg) at the South Paris Arena.
China's Hou Zhihui defended her title successfully with an effort of 206kg (89kg+117kg) while Romanian Mihaela Cambei took home the silver with total of 205kg (93kg+112kg).
