Paris Olympics 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated the Indian Hockey team after it secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, defeating Spain 2-1.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “A feat that will be cherished for generations to come! The Indian Hockey team shines bright at the Olympics, bringing home the Bronze Medal! This is even more special because it is their second consecutive Medal at the Olympics.”
“Their success is a triumph of skill, perseverance and team spirit. They showed immense grit and resilience. Congratulations to the players. Every Indian has an emotional connect with Hockey and this accomplishment will make the sport even more popular among the youth of our nation,” the Prime Minister said.
The moment has come as a joy for billion hearts which earlier suffered a disappointment after Vinesh Phogat's disqualification.
Bronze in hockey is a remarkable feat driving the nation into celebrations especially the relatives of the team players.
In Kerala's Ernakulam, Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh's wife, Aneeshya said, “He told me this is the last match he has to win and that he would come back with a bronze medal. I agree with his decision... While watching the match we were very tense. It is an emotional moment. Sometimes we cannot express through words...”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated Indian men's hockey team saying, "Congratulations to our men's Hockey team for the Bronze Medal in the #ParisOlympicGames2024. Their remarkable teamwork and wonderful skills have yielded great results. We are proud of the team and convey best wishes to them for their future endeavours."
