Paris Olympics 2024: Vinesh Phogat On The Cusp Of Creating Two Unique Olympic Records For India

Paris Olympics 2024: The 11th day of the ongoing 33rd Summer Games has been nothing less than emphatic for India. The Indian athletes missed out on few medals by a whisker, but Neeraj Chopra and Vinesh Phogat have left no stone unturned to give the Indian contingent their best chance of winning two more medal. Vinesh is now into the semis of women's 50 kg freestyle wrestling and is on the verge of creating history for India.

Vinesh Phogat's Sensational Paris Olympics

Phogat has been nothing but exceptional in the ongoing Paris Games. The experienced Indian wrestler has now progressed into the semi-finals of the 50kg women's freestyle wrestling. Earlier in the day, Phogat defeated Ukraine's Oksana Livanch in the quarter-finals. It was a tough fight for the Indian wrestler but she ended on the winning side as she edged past Livanch by 7-5.

Phogat's performance in the pre-quarters against Japan's Yui Susaki in the pre-quarters was more impressive. The Japanese grappler was the reigning champion and in a sudden change of events, Phogat knocked her out of the ongoing Paris Olympics. Phogat now stands a chance of registering two world records on the Olympic stage.

Vinesh Phogat Eyes Not One, But Two Records In Paris

As of now, Sakshi Malik remains the only Indian female grappler to win an Olympic medal. If Phogat ends up winning her semi-final bout, she'll become only the second Indian female wrestler to win an Olympic medal. If things go well for Phogat and she ends up qualifying and winning the finals, she'll become the first and the only Indian female grappler to win a gold in women's wrestling.
