Paris Olympics 2024: India woke up to a massive heartbreak today. Vinesh Phogat was just inches away from claiming the historic gold / silver for the country in the ongoing Paris Games, but things took a shocking turn at the very last moment. Phogat who was all set and ready to wrestle USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt for the coveted gold medal was found overweight by 100 grams in the stipulated 50kg weight category. The Indian wrestler tried her very best to cut down the extra weight, but her efforts, unfortunately did not produce desired results.

PM Modi Speaks To IOA President

PM Narendra Modi spoke to IOA President PT Usha and sought first-hand information from her on the issue and the options India has in the wake of Vinesh's setback. He asked her to explore the full range of options to help Vinesh’s case. He also urged PT Usha to file a strong protest regarding her disqualification if that helps Vinesh said sources.

Vinesh Phogat's Paris Olympics 2024 Campaign

Things have been unfortunate for the Indian grappler but that doesn't take away the fact that she had been nothing but outstanding in the Paris Games. She won all the three bouts and that too in a dominating fashion. She first defeated Olympic champion Yui Susaki of Japan and then followed it up with a stellar victory over Oksana Livach of Ukraine in the quarters. In the semis, Vinesh took her game to a different level and beat Yusneylis Guzman of Cuba 5-0.

Vinesh Phogat Misses Out On Massive Record

The Indian grappler was all set to become the first women's wrestler to win an Olympic gold or silver but things were not meant to be. Sakshi Malik has been the only Indian female wrestler so far to win an Olympic medal, to be specific a bronze.
