'An Incredible Achievement': PM Modi Celebrates Manu Bhaker As India Wins 1st Medal At Paris Olympic

India's first medal at Paris Olympics is home as Manu Bhaker wins Bronze for India at 10 M Women's Air Pistol event to become the first Indian Women to stand on Olympic Podium in Shooting. 

As Manu Bhaker brought home a historic medal for India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to celebrate the 22-year old's achievement and making India proud. '

Manu Bhaker became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in shooting and only the second Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal in the Pistol shooting. 

“Well done, Manu Bhaker for winning India’s first medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the 1st woman to win a medal in shooting for India,” wrote Narendra Modi on X.

Manu Bhaker's Historic Bronze

Manu Bhaker in the finals of 10 M Women's Air Pistol missed out on a medal by just 0.1 seconds. However, she did win Bronze for India and that Bronze was an epic feat in itself.

The last time India won shooting medals at the Olympics was in 2012 London edition where rapid-fire pistol shooter Vijay Kumar and 10m air rifle marksman Gagan Narang clinched silver and bronze respectively. Narang is the chef de mission of the Paris contingent right now.

The 22-year-old Bhaker, who hails from Jhajjar in Haryana, fought hard to get the bronze with a score of 221.7 in Paris. Manu Bhaker has finally gotten over her Tokyo 2020 heartbreak and has etched her name forever in Indian sporting history.
