In a thrilling encounter at the Paris Olympics 2024, Novak Djokovic continued his pursuit of a maiden Olympic gold medal, defeating his long-time rival Rafael Nadal 6-1, 6-4. The match, held on the iconic Philippe-Chatrier court, added another chapter to one of tennis's most storied rivalries.
Novak Djokovic's victory over Rafael Nadal marked his advance in the tournament, showcasing his impeccable form following a recent appearance in the Wimbledon final. Nadal, who had previously bested Djokovic in a memorable quarter-final at Roland Garros in 2022, found himself unable to replicate that success on this occasion.

Rafael Nadal questions scheduling of his Olympic matches
Adding to the challenges Rafael Nadal faced was a grueling schedule that saw him competing in both the singles and doubles events at the Olympics one after another. Teaming up with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz, the World No. 3, Nadal was set to face the Dutch duo of Tallon Griekspoor and Wesley Koolhof in the doubles second round. However, the tight scheduling left Nadal with little time to recover between matches, which he expressed his frustration about.

Following the doubles match on Saturday, July 27, Nadal was scheduled to face Hungary's Martin Fucsovics in the singles first round less than 19 hours later. This quick turnaround left the Spaniard contemplating whether he should even participate in the singles match, given his concerns about potential injuries and the impact on his overall performance.
"Do I play at 2:00 p.m.? I don't understand the schedule. It seems outrageous to me when I'm playing tomorrow at two o'clock," Nadal expressed, highlighting his disbelief at the tight scheduling. “I don't know, I'll have to go back to the village and talk to the team. I'll make the decision that I think is most appropriate to have a chance of getting results for Spain.”
