Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris Olympics Women's Wrestling 50kg class, and it has sent shockwaves all over. The wrestler was assured of a medal, but now, she has been ousted from the competition. Phogat's disqualification was unfortunate as she was in line for the final, which would have guaranteed her and the Indian team a medal. The Indian Olympic Association has presented an official statement on the matter.

Why Was Vinesh Phogat Barred From the Competition Before Her Final Bout? IOA Answers

A statement which is said to be from the IOA has come forward, which says that Vinesh was found a few grams over 50kg in the morning. The Indian Olympic Association later verified the development and sought privacy for the wrestler, as she competed in her third Olympics at the French Capital.

“It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand,” a statement by the IOA said this morning.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat had taken down Cuba's Yusneylys Guzman and the defending champion Yui Susaki, which allowed her to seal the path to the final. But her hopes are now dashed, and the chance for her to secure a medal in the Women's 50kg Wrestling are now none.

The disqualification would mean that Vinesh will not be eligible for neither the gold nor the silver medal. She will not be allowed to take part in the competition. It is a major setback for the Indian contingent as Vinesh was one of India's biggest hopes for a medal, but being a few grams above the permitted weight limit has costed the wrestler a chance to win the coveted gold.
