Shravan leads India's campaign at U-23 World Wrestling C'ship

Sharvan Singh will lead India’s 30-member campaign at the 3rd Under-23 World Wrestling Championship in Budapest, Hungary starting from  Oct 28 to Nov 3.

2017 Junior Asian Championship gold medallist Sharvan Singh will lead India’s 30-member campaign as more than 600 wrestlers from 60 countries will participate at 3rd Under-23 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary. India will be hoping to improve its performance from last edition where Ravi Kumar Dahiya won silver medal in 57kg at Championship starting from Oct 28 to v 3.

One of India's key medal hopes

While freestyle exponent, Sharvan (65kg) remains one of India’s key medal hopes, squad also has likes of Greco-Roman wrestler, Sajan Bhanwal who has three medals from World Junior Championships in 77kg and would be looking to grab his first medal from U-23 Worlds. Among women, Pinki and Reshma Mane are looking to make ir mark on world st.On first day of championships, Navin (57kg), Naveen (70kg), Virdev Gulia (79kg), and Akash Antil (97kg) will be in action, besides Sharvan (65kg).Based on current form of se wrestlers, WFI is expecting a better performance at World Championships after boys’ team and girls’ team underwent 15 days of rigorous training at Sonipat and Luckw respectively.

championship will be underway with Men’s freestyle competition on first two days followed by Women’s Wrestling, with Greco Roman competition scheduled on final three days. first edition of tournament was played in 2017 in Poland where Bajrang Punia led India to three silver medals. In second edition, it was Ravi Kumar Dahiya who went on to prove his mettle at 2019 Senior World Championships by claiming bronze and confirming 57kg freestyle category berth at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. entire action from seven-day UWW U-23 World Championships 2019 will be streamed live and exclusive on www.wrestlingtv.in.
