Spanish athletics federation (RFEA) joined calls for postponement of Tokyo Olympics this summer because of impact of coronavirus pandemic. " Board of Directors of Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, on behalf of majority of Spanish athletes, is vocating postponement of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games," RFEA said in a statement. Earlier in day, USA Track and Field urged its national Olympic committee to request a postponement of Games, scheduled for July 24 to August 9 in Japan, where 11,000 athletes from around world are expected.

"Circumstances do t guarantee equate preparation or fair competition with rest of athletes in world, without endangering health (of Spanish athletes)," said RFEA. Spain, one of most affected countries, h recorded more than 1,320 deaths from Covid-19 by Saturday and is enforcing confinement to try to stop spre of virus. Beyond athletics, American and French swimming federations and rwegian Olympic Committee, have also requested postponement of Games.
