Sports Ministry makes sporting infrastructure 'free & accessible'

With an effort to further the Fit India Movement and to make playfields and sporting infrastructure accessible, the Sports Ministry has introduced various steps

With an effort to furr Fit India Movement and to make playfields and sporting infrastructure accessible, without fee, to all sportspersons across country from vember 1, Sports Ministry recently has taken some steps.  Sports Ministry has decided to allow national and state sports federations, leagues and clubs to organize sports events in all sporting facilities owned by government, free of cost. sporting facilities will also be accessible free of cost to coaches training athletes who are t part of camps organized in Sports Authority of India centers. decision was taken with view that people must have access to playfields and sporting infrastructure so that culture of playing sport and refore of fitness, becomes a way of life for Indians.

In first phase, stiums in Delhi including Jawaharlal Nehru Stium, Indira Gandhi Stium, Major Dhyanchand Stium, and Karni Singh Shooting Range will be opened up for state and national federations to host competitions, tournaments and leagues of all sporting disciplines. Federations and Leagues will t be charged for use of facilities in se stia.

new policy will also allow n-SAI coaches to train ir athletes at stium without any charge, provided that coach has a minimum of at least 10 wards under his or her training. Training sessions can be booked by a coach online from vember 1 and coach can charge a reasonable training fee from his or her trainees.

Youngsters who aren’t training for any sport professionally will also have access to se stia and can play a game of ir choice by vance online booking against available slots. y would have to get ir photo identity cards me from Sports Authority of India at a minal cost.

Speaking of this first-of-a-kind decision to provide access to government’s sporting infrastructure to federations and sportspersons free of cost, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said, “ Sports Ministry is going all out to promote Fit India Movement, which has been envisioned by our Hourable Prime Minister. In India, re aren’t eugh playfields where children and those interested in fitness and sports can pursue a sport. Sports Ministry has at its disposal some of best sporting infrastructures of country and needs to be utilized for benefit of promoting sporting culture and ecosystem in country. We h a meeting with all NSFs and all of m are very happy with this decision, and some of m have alrey submitted ir plans to host leagues and tournaments in coming months. intention of ministry is to increase use of existing sports infrastructure by 3 times in next 3 months. I am sure this step will t only promote fitness but will also prompt more youngsters to compete in sport and help us identify more talent for country.”

To ensure focussed use of available infrastructure, each stium is being earmarked for a specific sport. JLN will host football leagues, training, and competitions organized by federations, while IG stium will be earmarked for wrestling, boxing, judo, and bminton. Shooting competitions will be hosted at KSSR and hockey and swimming at National Stium.
