Andy Murray beats Pablo Cueves to enter European Open quarter-final

Andy Murray the three-time Grand Slam champion continues to make his way to form after been out for almost 10 months following his career-saving hip surgery.

Former world number one Andy Murray continues to make his way back to form after cruised into the quarter-finals at Antwerp on Thursday with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat on Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas. Murray, who is a three-time Grand Slam champion, was out of tennis almost 10 months after a career-saving hip surgery. Earlier, Murray registered his first ATP singles match win on the European soil by beating Belgian wild card Kimmer Coppejans 6-4, 7-6 (4) in the opening round of the current tournament.

Andy Murray's thoughts on his win at European Open

After letting slip his first seven break-point chances of the match, the 32-year-old Scot kept pushing for a breakthrough. And once he did, there was no looking back as he clinched the match in one hour and 24 minutes.

After an impressive win, Murray was clearly happy with the result and said that he felt a bit better while playing the match. He also felt that he served quite well for most of the match and felt like he was hitting the ball quite clean when he got into the baseline rallies.

Andy Murray ranking and next opponent

Murray, currently ranked 243rd in the world, held serve throughout against eighth seed Cuevas before sealing victory in 84 minutes. He will take on Romania's Marius Copil, who hit 13 aces past third seed Diego Schwartzman in a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (9/7) win on Friday for a place in the last four.

Murray, who is pursuing his first ATP Tour title since 2017 in Dubai, has won both of his previous matches against Copil, including a three-hour, two-minute triumph last year at the Citi Open.
