Andy Murray, who was away from tennis majors due to hip surgery, is all set to make his Grand Slam return at Australian Open in the month of January next year.

Andy Murray is all set to make his Grand Slam return at the Australian Open in the month of January next year. The organizers of the tennis tournament announced on October 8 that Murray is healing better and is expected to get fitter by the beginning of tournament. He is presently ranked at 289 which is higher than his ranking last week which was 503. In the year 2018, the tennis star had to withdraw from the Brisbane International and Australian Open because of a hip injury. He had to undergo surgery to recover from the injury.

Australian Open organizers confirmed his return
Murray with time passing seems confident of getting back to a Grand Slam court. He won the opening match of the Shanghai Masters on October 7 where he defeated Argentina's Juan Ignacio Londero in 3 sets. He also made a quarter-final appearance in Beijing a week ago. The organizers of the Australian Open said that Murray is eager to make a comeback into the Grand Slam which is scheduled in the month of January 2020. The official Twitter handle of Australian Open tweeted confirming the comeback of the 32-year-old. The official website of the tournament wrote that the former world number one “would return to the main draw with a protected ranking of number two and restored physical powers”. Murray reached the finals of the Australian Open five times before but never won the tournament.

Murray was away due to a hip surgery
The British tennis player held a press conference before the tournament this year, where he announced in tears that he would retire after Wimbledon since he was suffering from unbearable pain in his hip. In an Instagram post, he wrote that one option which he has for recovery is rehab. He instead went for a hip resurfacing surgery to return to professional tennis. Murray now said that he is not suffering from any pain in his hip. After losing the Beijing match against Dominic Theim, he said the week was the best for him in terms of how he played ever since his return. He said that it was good for him as he played 3 matches in 4 days which is a lot and he now feels better because of it. The Australian Open of 2020 will be held between 20 January and 2 February. The present champion of the Australian Open is Roger Federer who defeated Marin Cilic this year.
