The two players have faced off a total of seven times, in which Thiem leads their head-to-head charts as he has won five matches so far. In their last two clashes, Zverev won the final at the Madrid Masters, while Thiem won in the quarter-final at the French Open this year.

Thiem had a phenomenal start to the tournament when he defeated Roger Federer in his first round-robin match 7-5, 7-5 and then went on to defeat Novak Djokovic two days later with a score of 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-6 (5). He ensured a semi-final spot with a win against Novak Djokovic. Though he lost to Matteo Berrettini, 6-7, 3-6 in his recent match, he still finished first in Group Bjorn Borg.
Zverev's journey till the Semi-finals
Zverev finished second place in Group Andre Agassi, having started off strongly with a win against World No.1 Rafael Nadal 6-2, 6-4. This was his first career win over the Spanish legend. After suffering at the hands of Stefanos Tsitsipas, 2-6, 3-6, Zverev bounced back against Daniil Medvedev in the last round-robin match of the week, defeating him 6-4, 7-6 (4), to secure his spot in the semi-final on Friday.
