ATP, WTA chiefs support Roger Federer’s suggestion for unified governance in tennis
ATP and WTA chiefs have welcomed Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer's proposal to merge the two to help the sport wade through the crisis caused by Covid.

Roger Federer’s surprise suggestion that governing bodies who have been separately running men’s and women’s tennis for deces should merge in wake of global health crisis, has been backed by Chiefs of ATP and WTA. On Wednesday, Federer proposed merger to steer game through lengthy Coronavirus shutdown with lower-level professionals in deep financial crisis.

Federer backed by authorities
Steve Simon, WTA Chairman and CEO said, "I have long stated that we are at our best as a sport when we can work toger, and recent weeks have highlighted that fact.”
On or hand, ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said that unifying sport was only way forward and would create bigger opportunities. He ded that he welcomed view and that authorities looked forward to collaborating with all stakeholders to work on it.

Swiss called for a merger of men's and women's professional tour, stating that difference in rankings, logos and various or aspects between two are confusing. Federer garnered a lot of praise from fans and or players for his suggestion.

“Am I only one thinking that w is time for men’s and women’s tennis to be united and come toger as one? It probably should have happened a long time ago. But maybe w is really time.”
Responding to a fan's reply, Federer said that different ranking systems, logos, websites, and tournament categories were confusing and that merger should have happened a long time ago. Federer ended by saying that inste of returning with two weakened sporting bodies, one strong body can emerge from Coronavirus.
