Defending champion Sofia Kenin was through to the second round of Australian Open after beating local wild card player Maddison Inglis in two sets, 7-5, 6-4 on Tuesday at Melbourne Park, Australia.

Defending champion Sofia Kenin was through to the second round of Australian Open after beating local wild card player Maddison Inglis in two sets, 7-5, 6-4 on Tuesday at Melbourne Park, Australia.

The No.4 seed spent an hour and 26 minutes on court to win the match at the Rod Laver Arena. No.14 seed Garbine Muguruza of Spain also cruised into the second round after winning against Margarita Gasparyan of Russia in two sets 6-4, 6-0 at Margaret Court Arena.
