After walking off following ar hardcourt loss to vak Djokovic, allowing Serbia to level final after Roberto Bautista Agut won opening singles for Spain, Nal urged men's tour and sport's international governing body to form one major team tournament.

“I think is a great competition, but at same time is -- I can't change my mind that two World Cups (within two months) is t real. So is t possible," top-ranked Nal said. “We need to find a way to fix it and we need to find a way to make a big deal with ITF and ATP to create a big World Team Cup competition, t two World Cups in one month.

“I think that's a confusion for spectators, and we need to be clear in our sport. And for health of our sport and for benefit of our sport is, in my opinion, mandatory that we fix it."

Nal played six singles matches — winning four — and two doubles in 10-day ATP Cup tournament, and played group st in Perth on Australia's west coast before flying across continent for playoff sts.

Australian Open, season-opening major, starts in Melbourne a week from Monday.

“When I'm playing here, I'm t thinking about Melbourne, or when I'm playing in Monte Carlo I'm t thinking about Roland Garros," Nal said, rejecting suggestion tournament was too close to a Grand Slam event. “I think it's a great competition. Excited to be part of it. Excited to represent my country.

'"I enjoyed a lot to share all se weeks or week and a half with my friends on team. organization have been fantastic, honestly. Just my mind is that we need to create one special thing, t two."

Djokovic said at Davis Cup in Mrid and at start of ATP Cup in Australia that men's tennis needs “one super World Cup event, whatever you want to call it."

“That's t going to happen next year as well. But if two sides, ITF, Davis Cup, and ATP get toger very quickly, it can happen possibly for 2022," he said ahe of tournament. “I hope it will happen because it's kind of hard to get top players to commit to play both events, Davis Cup and ATP Cup. And it's six weeks apart, so y're t really helping each or in terms of marketing, in terms of value of event, and so forth. And one is very early in season. One is last one in season."

33-year-old Nal, a 19-time major winner, wouldn't be drawn on where in schedule a single World Cup-style competition should fit.

“I can't tell you my real opinion, because will t make sense today," Nal said. ”And it's t that easy. Is a little bit longer conversation."
