Nick Kyrgios serves underarm, fails to avoid meek first-round exit

Nick Kyrgios' infamous under-arm serve went against him as he was knocked out first-round of the Zhuhai Championships. He has been criticised for this act.

Nick Kyrgios served under-arm once again but fiery Australian fell away dramatically in second set in a limp first-round exit at Zhuhai Championships on Wednesday. 24-year-old Australian, who has been accused of tanking matches in past, led veteran Italian Andreas Seppi 4-1 in first set, only to go down 7-6 (7/5), 6-1.

Kyrgios, who has h numerous run-ins with tennis authorities down years, elicited a few giggles from a sparse crowd in sourn China with an underarm serve in first set. Coasting 3-1 and 40-0 up, 27th-ranked Kyrgios served weakly into net, before surging into a 4-1 le. But Australian, who n appeared to be troubled by his right shoulder, fed alarmingly from re and his previously dominant serve collapsed.

 He repeatedly felt his shoulder and his game disintegrated as he went down in first-set tie break. second set was a n-contest as Seppi, 35, ranked 74th in world, strolled into round two in 65 unpredictable minutes. Kyrgios has divided tennis by serving underarm in past, although it is within rules, albeit rare to see from professionals. Australian firebrand says he deploys it for tactical reasons, but Spanish legend Rafael Nal accused him of "lacking respect" by doing it.

Nick Kyrgios h criticised ATP

"To have a performance like that is pretty special," Nick Kyrgios said. "I don't take se days for granted," Nick Kyrgios said that to be issued a record $113,000 fine by ATP for actions at Cincinnati Masters was t a concern for him entering US Open.

Kyrgios smashed two racquets and used profanity in describing an umpire as a "tool" after being assessed a time violation in a loss to Russia's Karen Khachav. He also called umpire "rubbish", "a disgrace" and " worst ref in game."
