Rafael Nadal likely to usurp top tennis honour held by Roger Federer over the years

Rafael Nadal is the favourite to sweep up the prestigious Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award - a Federer stronghold over the years - at the ATP Awards 2020.

As  historic and truncated 2020 season comes to an end, Association of Tennis Professionals, ATP, has released its minees for its annual ATP awards. re are 12 official award categories: Player of Year, Doubles Team of Year, Coach of Year, Tim Gullikson Career Coach Award, Most Improved Player, Newcomer of Year, Comeback Player of Year, ATPTour.com Fans' Favorite, ATPTour.com Fans' Favorite Team, Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award, Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of Year and  Tournaments of Year.  winners for all awards  - except fan favourites - are decided by players/coaches mselves

ATP Sportsmanship award

biggest name on minees' list this year is Rafael Nal, who is on track to win prestigious Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award in 2020.  award goes to player who, throughout year, conducts himself at highest level of professionalism and integrity and who promoted game through his off-court activities. Rafa - a three-time winner in this category - will be going up against Australian John Millman, Argentine Diego Schwartzman, and Austrian Dominic Thiem for his fourth title.

Spaniard, who won his maiden ATP Sportsmanship award in 2010, will be hoping to complete his hattrick with a win this year. In fact, he is only player except Roger Federer to have won this award at any time since 2004. 31-year-old John Millman is only new dition to last year’s minees' list, as a replacement for Roger Federer. With his reputation, it is surprise that Federer has won hour a record 13 times.

ATP Awards minees' list

World .9 Diego Schwartzman is only player to have received multiple minations this year - finding himself minated for Most Improved Player of Year category. award is given to player that reached a significantly higher ATP ranking at end of year. He will go up alongside Frenchman Ugo Humbert, Russia's Andrey Rublev and Italian wildcard Jannik Sinner for hour. Schwartzman started this year at .13, dropping down to .15 before finishing year at .9.

minees for 'Return of Year', given to a player who has overcome a serious injury to re-establish himself as one of best players on ATP Tour, are Kevin Anderson, Andrey Kuznetsov, Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic. newcomer of year is given to  NextGenATP player who entered top-150 for first time in 2020 and me biggest impact on circuit this season. This year's minees are Carlos Alcaraz, Sebastian Korda, Lorenzo Musetti, Jurij Rodiov, Emil Ruusuvuori and Thiago Seyboth Wild.
