Roger Federer backs US Open decision, claims people will be sick next year as well

Serial Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has backed the US Open to continue as per schedule despite the safety concerns and reluctance of Nadal and Djokovic.

Tennis legend Roger Federer has backed 2020 US Open to be held as per schedule despite fears of coronavirus pandemic. US Open schedule has been facing a lot of criticism by a number of tennis stars including World . 1 vak Djokovic. For his part, Roger Federer said that Grand Slam should take place without spectators as tennis has to resume at some point this season.

Roger Federer wants US Open to be held this year despite safety concerns 

Roger Federer had earlier expressed his reservations on playing behind closed doors but w has backed season to resume with US Open Schedule. US Open schedule will kick off with  Cincinnati Masters at Flushing Meadows before Grand Slam action comes in. However, US Open will take place with strict security measures, much to dislike of Rafael Nadal and vak Djokovic, whose participation in tournament is considered doubtful.

Speaking to  New York Times, Federer backed US Open to begin as per current schedule, claiming that tennis has to resume at some point this season. Swiss ace added that re will be sick people next year and it will never be 'super safe' to resume. Swiss maestro, who himself will be out of competition due to injury, said that sooner tennis begins, better it is for everyone involved.

US Open officials earlier declared that y have received approval from New York Goverr Andrew Cuomo to go ahead with 2020 edition of tournament. However, tournament will t feature any spectators and will have several precautions in place to safeguard health of players, officials and or stakeholders. While doubts over US Open schedule were raised with country being worst-hit by COVID-19,  US Open organisers, however, have put rest to all rumours by making an official anuncement that Grand Slam will be played from 31 August to 13 September. It remains to be seen if vak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal feature in tournament, with both stars expressing ir reluctance about participating in tournament. If two tennis icons pull out of 2020 US Open, it will be first time since 1999 US Open that member of 'Big 3' plays in a Grand Slam tournament.
