Roger Federer set to compete in French Open tournament next year

Swiss tennis player, Roger Federer, stated that he would be competing in the French Open in 2020 after stating that he will play in the Tokyo Olympics

Swiss tennis player, Roger Federer, stated that he would be competing in French Open in 2020. Federer also said that he will t be playing a lot of games before grand slam tournament as he wanted some time away from tennis because he wanted to spend some time with his family.  20-time Grand Slam winner played in this year's French Open and reached semi-finals after a 3-year absence.

A bid for 2020 Olympics gold medal

Meanwhile, 38-year-old player confirmed that he would be playing at 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Federer's first Olympics participation came at 2000 Sydney tournament. He went on to win a doubles gold in 2008 Olympics alongside Stan Wawrinka and a silver medal in 2012 edition, where he was defeated 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 in straight sets by an inspired Andy Murray. Although, he was sidelined for 2016 Olympics due to a knee injury.

With Federer turning 39 during Tokyo Games, he will make an attempt to win singles gold, only prize that swiss champion has never won in his career. Roger said that he was really excited to play in games next year as he h alrey carried flag twice for his country in Ans and Beijing.

In his professional tennis career, Federer has won all 4 grand slams and ATP Tour finals a total of six times. He has 6 Australian Open, 1 French Open, 8 Wimbledon and 5 US Open titles.

Roger is only player to win 100 or more career titles after Jimmy Conrs and holds record of 1200 wins in Open Era (current era in professional tennis, which began in year 1968). Roger Federer also holds record of staying on top of ATP rankings for a total of 310 weeks and 273 consecutive weeks.
