India's sixth-seeded Sumit Nagal on Sunday lost 2-6, 3-6 to Netherland's seventh-seeded Tallon Griekspoor in the finals of Banja Luka Challenger 2019 in Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina. This was Nagal's first title clash on ATP Challenger Tour since winning the Bengaluru Open on November 2017. Nagal had sailed into the final of the Banja Luka Challenger with a straight-sets win over Slovakia's Filip Horansky here on Saturday. Nagal is currently ranked 174th in the ATP rankings, which is his career-best.

About Sumit Nagal

Haryana's Sumit Nagal, started playing tennis at an age of eight while attending a local sports club. The 22-year-old captured his maiden Challenger crown in 2017 in Bengaluru. He is the youngest player from India in the Top 500 of the Emirates ATP Rankings. Nagal has defeated fellow competitor in #NextGenATP Jay Clarke of Great Britain 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 in the final.

Nagal's Grand Slam debut

Sumit Nagal made his Grand Slam debut against Roger Federer on August 26. Sumit Nagal gave the legendary Roger Federer a tough fight in the first round of US Open 2019. Federer endured a shaky start to the match but for Nagal it was the best he would have felt on a tennis court. The Indian stunned the crowd by breaking Federer's serve in the third game with the Swiss committing a double fault on the second breakpoint. However, after losing the first set, Roger Federer won three sets in a row to beat Sumit Nagal in the first round match. With the final score of 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-4, Roger Federer won the match. The match took place at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York.

Banja Luka Challenger

The lone professional tennis tournament in Bosnia & Herzegovina takes place in the city of Banja Luka, which has hosted a Challenger for nearly 20 years. The Srpska Open Challenger is a tennis tournament that is held each year in September in Banja Luka, Republika Srpska, Bosnia, and Herzegovina since 2002.
