A never-ending marathon
A final that lasted almost 5 hours seemed like a never-ending marathon, Nadal held his nerve and defeated Medvedev. After Federer and Djokovic were defeated earlier on, Nadal was the favorite to win the US Open. His Russian counterpart, Daniil Medvedev was gunning for a maiden grand slam title gave a tough fight to stay in the game for a longer period of time.
After Nadal won the first two sets, the 23-year-old Russian won the next two sets in what was termed as a captivating match. With a tie at 2-2 after the fourth set, Medvedev had a chance to repeat an upset just like the one that happened in the women's final wherein teen sensation Bianca Andreescu defeated Serena Williams to win her maiden grand slam title. However, Nadal played his natural game and finally breezed past the minor upset that he suffered to win his 4th US open title.
