third Grand Slam tournament of year, Wimbledon Championships 2022 is all set to begin next Monday at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. As players from across world lock horns for one of coveted trophies in Tennis, players won’t be awarded ranking points from ATP and WTA during tournament. Notably, Wimbledon 2022 was stripped off ranking points owing to ir ban on players from Russia and Belarus. 

This means World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev will miss out on tournament, while World No. 3 Novak Djokovic enters as top seed. Or notable absentees from tournament will be Andrey Rublev and Aryna Sabalenka. At same time, 20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will also skip tournament as he is yet to recover from his injury.

However, upcoming edition of grass-court major will feature singles comeback of 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams. Australian Open 2022 and French Open 2022 champion Rafael Nal will partake in tournament for first time since 2019, in a bid to extend his record of winning most Grand Slam trophies.

Fans from UK can watch draw on BBC’s platforms. BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer will stream event live, starting at 10:00 AM.

Novak Djokovic and Iga Switek: top seeds for Wimbledon 2022

While defending champion Djokovic will be top seed in tournament, 22-time Grand Slam champion Nal is seeded second. French Open 2022 runner-up Casper Ruud is seeded third, followed by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Carlos Alcaraz respectively. This is first time Alcaraz is among top-five seeds in his career. 

In women’s singles competition, Iga Switek is top seed and is also favourite to lift trophy. Anett Kontaveit in second and Ons Jabeur are seeded second and third. At same time, Paula Bosa in fourth and Naria Sakkari in fifth, wrap up top five seeds in women's singles event.
