Wimbledon to get HUGE $123.4 million insurance cover after tournament cancellation: Report

After finally cancelling oldest Grand Slam event due to coronavirus, Wimbledon is w preparing to submit an insurance claim which is‘in excess of $123.4 million (£100 million) according to multiple British media reports. All England Club's insurance policy was being updated back in 2003 after organisers asked for a virus-related clause to be inserted following concerns over SARS outbreak. Wimbledon cancelled news amidst  UK lockdown marked first time since Second World War that SW19 Grand Slam tournament will t be going ahead as per schedule.

Wimbledon cancelled: Why was decision taken?

Wimbledon insurance money

According to report in  Times, tournament's organizers are ardent about getting  Wimbledon insurance money worth upto £100 million ($123.4 million) since clause covers infectious diseases. Wimbledon remains only Grand Slam in tennis to have an insurance policy that includes a virus-related clause. 

report also mentions that exact amount of pay out that Wimbledon will earn from ir policy remains unclear with organising costs and prize money of $4.9 million (£4 million) to be considered as deductions, w that event has been cancelled. Wimbledon was set to bring in around $306 million (£250 million) in revenue for grasscourt Grand Slam.

According to report, outgoing chief executive Richard Lewis on Thursday warned that, despite good insurance policy, Wimbledon would survive a financial hit. He said that insurance will help protect major dam to a large extent. He said that. 
Wimbledon is fortunate to have insurance, but it doesn't solve all problem with details and figure probably t kwn for months.

Coronavirus tool during UK lockdown 

As per a report by  Guardian on Thursday,  UK’s Department of Health and Social Care claimed that coronavirus numbers during UK lockdown involve 2921 people dying in hospital after testing positive. report also mentions that 33,718 people in UK tested positive to disease.
