Zhang Shuai ousts third seed Madison Keys to reach San Jose quarterfinals

China's Zhang Shuai has reached her first quarterfinal at the San Jose Open on Wednesday (4 August).

The 32-year-old journeywoman ousted former champion Madison Keys 7-5, 7-6 (5) in one hour and 41 minutes.

The match was decided on the finest of margins when Zhang challenged an in call during the tiebreak.

The line check showed that the ball was out, handing the victory to the Zhang.

She will meet Croatian qualififer Ana Konjuh in the final eight.
