Elite swimmers Katinka Hosszu, Chad le Clos and Sarah Sjostrom - who have won more than 10 Olympic medals between them -- revealed serious concerns over the fate of the games by the spread of a viral outbreak on Wednesday.
Tokyo Olympic organizers and the Japanese government reiterated on Wednesday that the Games will go ahead, after former International Olympic Committee vice president Dick Pound said the 2020 Olympics' fate will be decided in the next three months.
Hosszu, le Clos and Sjostrom were training in Naples in Southern Italy. At least 370 people in Italy's north have tested positive for the virus and 12 people have died.
The viral outbreak that began in China has infected more than 80,000 people and killed more than 2,700 globally. China has reported 2,715 deaths among 78,064 cases on the mainland. Five deaths in Japan have been attributed to the virus.
