The highly-anticipated main-card event of UFC 244 for the BMF title took place on November 3. Jorge Masvidal ended up beating Nate Diaz to become the 'Baddest MF' in the game. The crowd at the Madison Square Garden were treated to a controversial ending as Masvidal won after the third round due to doctor stoppage.
Masvidal, the clear dominator
Although fans were divided over the fight's premature end, Masvidal's victory was evident as he had dominated Nate Diaz in all the rounds which were contested. Masvidal got two knockdowns on Diaz and landed 62% of the 184 strikes he took. Diaz could not successfully perform a takedown on Masvidal even after two attempts. Masvidal won the fight by TKO after the third round after the doctor stopped the bout because of a severe cut above Diaz's eye.
Diaz unhappy with the doctor
In the post-match press conference, Diaz spoke about how he felt 'played' by the doctor. Diaz referenced to the incident when the doctor asked him if his eye was okay to which Diaz replied in an affirmative. The Doctor went on to immediately call off the fight to Diaz's surprise. Diaz also expressed his unhappiness with the UFC over being booked too quickly. Diaz had fought against Anthony Pettis in August and felt like a time of six months would have given him a better chance in the match against Masvidal. Talking about a rematch, Diaz said that the chances laid with the decision Dana White and Masvidal took.
Masvidal munches on Pizza, thrash talks McGregor
After becoming the 'Baddest MF in the game', Jorge Masvidal's Press Conference was something to witness. Munching on Pizza, drinking Liquor, a relaxed Masvidal talked about the bout. He also proceeded to talk about facing Conor McGregor, claiming that he would dominate the Irish fighter. He proceeded to refer to McGregor as 'a f****ng midget'. McGregor had earlier mentioned his desire to face the winner of the Diaz vs Masvidal bout.
