Wrestling Rankings: Deepak Punia becomes World No.1 in 86 kg category

According to the UWW's latest issued rankings, World Championship Silver Medalist Deepak Punia has jumped to number one position in the 86 kg category.

According to the United World Wrestling's latest issued rankings, World Championship Silver Medalist Deepak Punia has jumped to number one position in 86kg category and Bajrang Punia slipped to number 2 position in the 65 kg category. While competing in his maiden senior championship, Deepak Punia had to settle for silver after his ankle injury forced him to quit from the final against Iranian Hasan Yazdani.

This year, Deepak had won a silver Yasar Dogu and bronze medals at Asian Championship and Sassari tournaments. He has been rewarded for his consistent show.

Bajrang Punia went into the world championship as world number one but slipped to a second spot after managing to win a bronze medal. The 25-year-old, Bajrang now has 63 points. Russia's Gadzhimurad Rashidov, who won gold in Nur Sultan, is now the new world number one in the 65kg category.

UWW Rankings – 65kg Freestyle

1) Gadzhimurad Rashidov – Russia (72 points)
2) Bajrang Punia – India (63 points)
3) Haji Ali – Bahrain (44 points)
4) Kilicsallayan – Turkey (44)
5) Daulet Niyazbekov – Kaz (40)

In the 57 Kg category, Bronze medalist Ravi Dahiya has now entered in the top-five list. Ravi ranks fifth with a total of 39 points. Rahul Aware's Bronze medal has now moved up his position to world number two.

Women's rankings

In women's rankings, Vinesh Phogat, who won a bronze medal in Nur Sultan and a Tokyo Olympic quota, has now moved up to number 2 in the 53kg category rising four places after her stupendous show last week.

In the 50 kg category, Seema Bisla has slipped to number 3 while Pooja Dhanda (32) is ranked five in 59kg, two places behind compatriot Manju Kumari (40).
