WWE Crown Jewel 2019 was filled with big matches between the biggest names in the business. Brock Lesnar defeated Cain Velasquez within three minutes, and Bray Wyatt took down Seth Rollins to become the new WWE Universal Champion. This week's Friday Night SmackDown was right after the Crown Jewel, but most top stars were absent due to unexpected travel issues while returning from Saudi Arabia. For the first event of the night, Lesnar quit the blue brand and joined the WWE Raw so he could take on Rey Mysterio. Adam Cole retained his NXT championship by defeating Daniel Bryan as the show came to an end. As most wrestlers were not present, SmackDown had to include a few unexpected elements to keep the show running for two hours.

WWE SmackDown: The Miz vs Ciampa

The Miz was talking about Wyatt's win at Crown Jewel but decided he could not continue talking about his absentee guest. However, Tommaso Ciampa interrupted the A-Lister and called him everything that is wrong with WWE. Their interaction quickly ended up as a match. Though Ciampa had the upper hand as the fight started, the Most Must-See WWE Superstar gained control of the situation after he injured Ciampa's knee. Ciampa recovered and caught Miz with a knee off a dive, and delivered the Fairy Tale Ending for victory by pinfall. It was an excellent impromptu event and kept the audience invested.

WWE SmackDown: NXT Champion Adam Cole vs Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan first ran into Triple H and Shawn Michaels backstage, where Triple H stated he would be announcing that NXT would be competing at Survivor Series. Bryan challenged the game, but HHH announced that Bryan would fight Adam Cole for the NXT Championship. HBK and the King of Kings stood aside as Bryan overpowered Cole. He trapped the NXT champion in the LaBell Lock, but Cole managed to execute the Panama Sunrise into the Last Shot to bag the win by pinfall and defend his title. As the show ended, Triple H made sure it was clear that this was just the start of a war for supremacy and dominance. As Roman Reigns vs Baron Corbin could not take place, Cole vs Bryan was the perfect way to end the night.
