Apple has started the sale of repair parts for the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro devices through its self-service repair store. Customers can buy replacements for cameras, displays, and even the rear glass panel, which are more prone to damage and can be fixed without necessarily needing to visit the service centre. The availability of individual repair parts for the latest iPhone lineups comes weeks after Apple released their repair manuals to allow owners to fix certain parts -- but only in the US.

According to the self-service repair store, the replacement part for the camera costs $169 for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus and $249 for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. The display for the new iPhone models is priced between $279 and $379, depending on the model, while the batteries cost $99 and $119 for the iPhone 16 series and iPhone 16 Pro series, respectively. Apple also sells specialised repair kits worth $49 to customers who do not have the necessary tools to assemble the parts.

The repair parts are part of Apple's efforts to make Do-It-Yourself (DIY) repairs more convenient. The company had previously announced improved repairs for the iPhone to comply with the Right to Repair -- a legal right in the US that allows owners of devices and equipment to freely modify and repair products, including smartphones, electronics, automobiles, and farm tools.

By selling repair parts directly, Apple also eliminates the service costs the owner would otherwise pay when visiting a service centre. That means repairing an iPhone part becomes cheaper, but it requires a beginner level of expertise. Owners can learn how to fix an iPhone's cameras, battery, or display using the official repair manuals available on the Apple website. As mentioned, these repair parts are available only in the US, and Apple has not said anything about whether it plans to expand self-service repairs to other countries.
