Google’s ‘Inbox by Gmail’ is saying goodbye. Inbox by Gmail first came in with a different set of principles. Released in 2015, Google touted Inbox as priority-focused, standalone email service. Back in 2014, Google CEO Sundar Pichai who was then serving as SVP for Android, Chrome and Apps made a clear distinction between Inbox and Gmail. He said that Inbox by Gmail is a completely different type of inbox, which only concentrates on things that really matter.

This is what Google has to say on its official website:

“Inbox is signing off. Find your favourite features in the new Gmail. We are saying goodbye to Inbox at the end of March 2019. While we were here, we found a new way to email with ideas like snooze, nudges, Smart Reply and more. That’s why we’ve brought your favourite features to Gmail to help you get more done. All your conversations are already waiting for you. See you there.

But over the years, all these features were re-introduced to Gmail and the current Gmail has embraced pretty much everything from Inbox. So, loyal Inbox users (if there are any) will have to bear nothing more than a different branding.

Smart reply feature provides suggested phrases based on your email’s conversation. Go to Gmail > Settings > Smart reply to turn it on or off. Of course, you can edit the suggested phrases before sending.

Hover actions

It saves you some s since all you have to do is point to emails in your inbox and take quick actions such as archiving or marking email as read, without actually opening it.

Follow-ups

Follow-ups or nudges suggest users reply or follow up on older emails. If you want to turn it on or off, go to Gmail > Settings > Nudges >  Uncheck Suggest emails to reply to or Suggest emails to follow up on.

Snooze

You can use Snooze feature to postpone your emails in case you want them to reappear at the top of your inbox sometime later.
