Over the last few weeks, China's popular video sharing app TikTok has run into some serious legal troubles in India. The video-sharing platform is currently dominated by user-created dance and music videos related to film and entertainment industry. The app lets users lip-sync and dance to music.

Earlier this month, the Madras High Court directed the centre to impose a nationwide ban on TikTok for “encouraging pornography.” The matter is scheduled for hearing in the Supreme Court on April 22. Meanwhile, the government has asked the TikTok app to be taken down from Android and iOS app stores.

We compile the list of some of the top alternatives for TikTok in case it gets banned in India:

Dubsmash

Dubsmash came way before TikTok (formerly Musical.ly) and quickly became popular among the youth. It lets users create lip-sync videos and dance to their favourite song or famous movie dialogue. After TikTok, Dubsmash has perhaps the largest selection of songs and dialogues across a wide range of movies and TV shows.

LIKE - Magic Video Maker & Community

This happens to be yet another popular video-making app among youth. One of the main reasons why people like to create LIKE videos is special effects. The app boasts about more than 300 special effects that you can add to your videos. Apart from video filters, users can lip-sync to their favourite songs, much like TikTok and Dubsmash.

Cheez

One of the lesser-known apps in India, the Cheez app is based on a slightly different concept. The app encourages content creators to make videos, generate more views and earn rewards. Plus, users get compensated for watching, commenting and sharing videos created by other users. Cheez allows users to create videos across different areas including lip-syncing.

Funimate

Funimate is all about letting users create short music video clips and lip-sync videos. What’s more, it also allows users to apply special effects such as slow-motion videos. Furthermore, Funimate also allows users to use their own, customised effects. It also allows users to add emoji, stickers and text to videos.

Triller

Triller boasts about the app’s auto-editing algorithm that lets users create what it calls “professional-looking videos” in minutes. Similar to all the applications we have discussed so far, Triller also lets users apply filters. Triller wants users to personalise their videos with customised text, drawings and emojis.
