Do you want PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) to operate as it is in India, without being banned? Well, respondents in an apparently new study seemingly reacted surprisingly to the question concerning a ban on video games promoting violence. Here, 4 out of 10 respondents wanted such games to be banned in India, citing violence.

This study, quoted by IANS, reportedly commissioned by market research firm Ipsos, with respondents numbering over a thousand during the time period ranging from 21 November and 7 December 2018, in India. Though the study does not explicitly mention PUBG as falling into the violent games category, it states that the respondents took strong objections to games categorized as “violent” while rejecting these.

The study also reportedly states that respondents thought that violent video games could turn into vices, and hence rejected them. At this point in time, there have been debates in India with respect to PUBG being violent and addictive; the game has also faced bans in countries like Nepal and Iraq – the latter has lifted the ban since.

Also, around 68% of the respondents stated in the study were in favour of moderate usage of social media without these being perceived as addiction. Then, the respondents even wanted a complete ban on online betting.

Video games promoting gore/violence do need to be banned, but classifying these as “violent” and “spreading undesirable elements” is a task that needs execution through genuine experts more than government officials; don’t you think so?
