Google Play Store just became safer for children as Google rolls out new policy changes

Search giant Google is implementing a series of new rules and regulations on the Google Play Store. These new guidelines apply to every single app that's available to download

Search giant Google is implementing a series of new rules and regulations on Google Play Store. se new guidelines apply to every single app that's available to downlo on Google Play Store, company anunced via its official Android Developers blog on Wednesday. In a blog post titled "Building a safer Google Play for kids" Kanika Sachdeva, Product Manr, Google Play explained how se changes are going to affect Android apps going forward.

First and foremost, se changes will affect how ap developers handle personal data of ir users, in dition to what demographics y decide to target. More importantly, it will be mandatory for developers to disclose kids are being targeted as intended audience for ir app. This way, Google w wants to make Play Store more kid-friendly. Even when children are t intended audience for ir app, Google has vised developers against appealing to children anyway.

"At Google Play, we’re committed to providing a positive, safe environment for children and families. Over last few years, we’ve helped parents find family-friendly content through Designed for Families program and empowered m to set digital ground rules for ir families with Family Link parental controls," Google said.

Google also said that it's acting upon feedback received from both users and developers and as a result, y "are evolving our Google Play policies to provide ditional protections for children and families." Google explains that se policy changes are built on Google's existing community guidelines that ensure that "apps for children have appropriate content, show suitable s, and handle personally identifiable information correctly; y also reduce chance that apps t intended for children could unintentionally attract m."

As part of new policy, all developers are w being required to complete new target audience and content section of Google Play Console and for most developers whose apps don't target children, content section of Google Play Console should be relatively quick to complete. If developers choose children as ir apps' intended audience, y will be required to fill follow-up questions.
