Google on Thursday announced the Spot Platform platform at the Google For India event in New Delhi. Powered by Google Pay, the company's UPI-enabled payment platform, Spot Platform will allow business and companies to 'create branded commercial experiences that bridge the offline and online worlds.'
What is Spot Platform?
In its blog post, Google describes Spot as a way for business to up their digital game. Both offline and online brands can set themselves up on Google Pay-powered platform and simplify the way they deal with their customers. For example, users need not install separate apps to book a cab, order food from their favourite restaurants, book train or bus tickets, etc. In short, Spot platform offers a digital infrastructure to brands so that they can provide Google Pay users with services like online food ordering and live order tracking, among others. Brands such as Eat.fit, MakeMyTrip and redBus are among the early adopters of Google Spot.
"Today, we are broadening this early access program, and inviting developers and businesses to sign up to create their Spot and build engaging relationships with millions of users on Google Pay," said Jay Yagnik, Vice President and Google Fellow, Google AI.
Google Pay now has 67 million monthly active users in India and $110 billion in transactions in 2019.
