India is currently under lockdown to stop spread of Coronavirus pandemic in nation. Many apps, websites, portals and more emerged during this time of need to help government and users to track expanse of virus and to protect mselves by self-assessment. Reliance Jio launched COVID-19 symptom checker for same. But, w reports suggest that Jio's data has been leaked online.
Jio Symptom Checker data leaked due to security issues
Jio Symptom Checker initiative was to help government and its users to find out if y have any symptom related to virus. Jio had rolled out this feature on its website and via its MyJio app. However, reports of security lapse of Jio's COVID-19 symptom checker started doing rounds when a leading news portal revealed information a few days back. news ncy was approached by Anurag Sen, a security researcher who found system glitch on May 1, 2020.

He revealed that leaked data contained millions of logs and records starting from April 17, 2020. reports say that server contained a running log of system messs and more importantly user-generated self-test data. data found by researcher also included or data such as who took test and more.

leaked data reportedly contained information including self-test data, ir , and ir along with a small snippet of information about user’s browser version and operating system. leaked database also displayed individual records of people who have signed up to create a profile in COVID-19 symptom checker of My Jio App and all answers to questions asked by symptom checker.

According to reports, some records also contained precise location of users, which probably belong to people who granted symptom checker access to ir browser or phone’s location data. Although, when Reliance Jio came in awareness of such a security lapse, it pulled system offline. Jio spokesperson also said that organisation's logging server was for monitoring performance of website which was intended for limited purpose of people doing a self-check for Coronavirus symptoms.
