PUBG player steals Rs 50,000 from his father's bank account to buy in-game items

Of late, PUBG Mobile in India has been making the headlines for all the wrongs reasons that Tencent cannot be proud of. Earlier, we talked about some of the major headlines that PUBG made recently in spite of controversies. But the list keeps growing bigger.

According to reports, a 15-year-old boy in Jalandhar stole Rs 50,000 from his father’s bank account so that he could spend the stolen money on PUBG’s gaming accessories and skins. He was a class 10th student. The boy purchased a gamepad to play PUBG Mobile, in addition to in-game cosmetic items like weapons and skins.

The boy’s father, who works as a bike mechanic, filed a police complaint after he noticed that a large amount was missing from his bank account. Apparently, he did not receive any details about the transaction as well as a one-time password (OTP) from the bank.

Key transaction details were brought to light after the cyber cell started probing into the matter. It was discovered that the money transferred to a Paytm account, which was used to purchase PUBG items and gaming accessories. The investigation revealed that the Paytm account in question belonged to the boy’s friend.

The police investigation revealed that the man’s 15-year-old son had transferred the money to his friend’s account and deleted the OTP from his father’s mobile phone. All the charges were dropped by the father after his son confessed to his crime.

Addiction to PUBG Mobile has driven a lot of negative headlines in the past. Only recently, select Indian cities have issued the notification imposing a ban on the game. In Maharashtra, the Bombay High Court is seeking the government’s response to a PIL filed by an 11-year-old boy through his mother.

The controversy around PUBG in India reached its peak after the addiction claimed teenager’s life in Mumbai. Last month, a man attacked his fiancee's brother for not giving him the charger after his phone ran out of battery after continuous PUBG gameplay. Recently, a 25-year old man who was busy playing PUBG drank acid instead of water.
