Spotify’s India release could now be witnessed earlier than expected as the music streaming global giant is said to have inked multiple deals with major stakeholders which could pave way for is imminent launch. Once launched, it would be interesting to witness how the music subscription (and streaming) stacks up against existing players viz saavn, Jio, Gaana, and many more.
Now, the heart of the matter is; as per a Bloomberg report, Spotify’s completion of deals could witness launch of the service as early as during the first six months of 2019. At this instant, it is worth noting that content consumption (digital) is now at an all time high so are the content streaming services. This is applicable to both and video content streaming services.
The penetration of Reliance Jio may be a potential factor in the sharp rise in the content consumption patterns. The Mukesh Ambani-led company, with its LTE connectivity offered on feature phones (JioPhones) has theoretically led to an increase in the number of netizens as well as those looking at consuming quality content through digital.

Hence, once official, Spotify could have multiple players to compete with. At this juncture, it would do no harm for mobile subscribers in India to keep their eyes and ears open for Spotify.
In related developments, JioMusic could be done away with; due to the rumoured tie-up between Jio and Saavn. The support folks at Saavn have stated that customers of Jio could subscribe for free and enjoy music without shelling out money for 90 days; after this 90 day period, there would be a choice between a paid subscription, and continuation with the existing free subscription.

Also, with respect to content consumption, Amazon Prime Video recently received an update to feature a Hindi interface. USP of this development is the increasing regional content consumption patterns in India. More languages (to customise interface) could be made live in the near future.
