Swiggy says it will expand to 600 cities, 200 universities by December
Online food delivery app Swiggy says it will expand to 600 cities and 200 universities by the end of this year. Currently, Swiggy is spread across 500 cities.

Online food ordering and delivery app Swiggy on Monday said it is expanding presence to 600 cities and 200 universities across the country by the end of this year. Currently, Swiggy has a presence across 500 cities and 75 universities, the company said in a statement. By December, Swiggy says it will grow its presence and reach 600 cities and 200 universities around the country. The announcement comes amid Swiggy's expansion plan in the country.
Swiggy also says since its inception five years ago, the company has received an overwhelming response from tier 3 and 4 cities, allowing it to successfully penetrate even the smallest markets across the country. At the same time, Swiggy says it has continued to add sustainable value to the ecosystem tier 3 and tier 4 towns across the country.

"With presence in 500 cities and 75 universities, Swiggy already has the widest reach in the country. We will further expand this to 600 cities and 200 universities by December 2019," Swiggy COO Vivek Sunder said.

Swiggy Launchpad
In June, Swiggy announced Swiggy Launchpad initiative. What is Swiggy Launchpad initiative all about, you may ask? Through the Swiggy Launchpad Programme, the company is seeking to enable students to set up Swiggy's operations in their universities. Swiggy views students as its strongest brand ambassadors and plans to launch in over 200 universities by December 2019, the statement said. Swiggy currently connects consumers to over 1,40,000 restaurant partners in 500 cities.
Previously, Swiggy topped the list of most downloaded apps worldwide in health and fitness category for August, as per the report from Sensor Tower. Swiggy reached about 40 lakh installs during the stipulated period, recording a 66 per cent increase from the same period last year. The country with the highest number of installs (98 per cent) was India.

Swiggy Go
Last month, Swiggy announced the launch of Swiggy Go instant pick-up and drop delivery service to compete with Dunzo, a Bengaluru-based startup that recently $45 million raised from Google, Lightbox and more. Beyond food delivery, Swiggy Go wil deliver documents, parcels to clients, from one place to the other. Swiggy says Swiggy Go will give the company's existing delivery partners access to an additional option to generate income
