Securing phone screen with a unique password and keeping a tab on permissions given to apps are some steps smartphone users can take to keep mselves safe online, tech giant Google said on Monday, February 4. 

se recommendations are part of Google's latest campaign '#SecurityCheckKiya' that urges users to take control of ir data. campaign is being initiated ahe of Safer Internet Day on February 5.

"As techlogy continues to change way we live, work, and play, users want to kw how best to ensure ir safety on web. Helping people man ir privacy and security is integral to everything we do," Google India Director, Trust and Safety Sunita Mohanty said.

She said Google builds products with strong security protections at ir core to continuously and automatically detect and protect users' data.

"...we tify you when you've granted access to third-party sites or apps, but it's really important for you to understand information that you share with se apps or sites," Mohanty said in a blog.

She explained that it is important that users also conduct a health checkup of ir Google Account to ensure safety of ir data.

"Overall re is growing interest among users to understand how y can make ir online experience safer... while this is good, we believe re is still a need to improve user awareness, on how to stay safe online and protect ir data," she said. 

Mohanty said providing simple actionable steps work best with users - especially young and those coming online for first time.

"This year, we will continue to educate users on safety y can do, so y can take more control of ir online security and privacy," she ded.
