Uber travel is becoming cheaper: Now you can book 'Bajaj Qute' Quadricycle under new category 'UberXS'

In what could be good news for Uber users in Bengaluru, the ride-hailing company has announced its partnership with Bajaj Auto for affordable service. As a result of this partnership, Uber has launched Bajaj Qute on its new UberXS category that offers an additional, affordable commuting option to travellers in Bengaluru.

In a nutshell, Bajaj Qute is a driver-plus three passenger quadricycle. Although Bajaj Qute is a four-wheeled motor vehicle, it is smaller and lighter than a passenger car. Bajaj Qute comes with two fuel options: CNG and Petrol.

UberXS category in the India South Asia region is initially offering CNG version of Bajaj Qute exclusively in Bengaluru Nandini Maheshwari, head of Business Development at Uber India and South Asia said that the company is constantly working towards transforming the mobility landscape of cities with technology at the heart of Uber's solutions.

"This partnership is an extension of Uber's commitment towards lowering transportation costs, enhancing asset utilisation and improving rider convenience," she added.

How much would UberXS cost?

According to the company, the charges of UberXS would be between that of its UberGo and auto offerings. The cost, however, depends on demand and other factors, Maheshwari said. Bajaj Qute provides a mileage of 43km/kg. At first, Uber will operate the UberXS in Bengaluru for some time before it makes its way into other cities.

"Bajaj Qute is the first quadricycle of India and will prove to be an ideal solution for the mobility challenges of congestion and pollution arising from rapid urbanisation. Its small size helps parking in congested areas," Bajaj Auto DGM Prashant Ahir said.

In realted news, Uber has started testing drone-based food delivery for UberEats, the company's online food ordering unit. UberEats started testing drone-based food delivery in San Diego with McDonald’s and it plans to expand to other restaurants later this year.

Uber said the knowledge it gains from the tests will help with Uber’s planned aerial ride-sharing network.
