WhatsApp Payments is now available for all; check features & how to use

WhatsApp Payments is a UPI-based service that complies with India's localisation regulations. It can be used to transfer money to any user on the platform.

WhatsApp Payments was launched back in vember 2020, when feature was available to selected devices only. Using WhatsApp Payments, users can transfer money from ir bank accounts to ar WhatsApp user within application. transfer is represented by a mess-like icon in interface, containing details such as amount transferred, bank account used, and transaction ID. 

Recently, feature has been rolled out for all users on platform. WhatsApp Payments is a UPI-based service that complies with India's localisation regulations. It can be used to transfer money to any user on platform safely with help of ir mobile number like in or UPI enabled platforms such as Google Pay, BHIM UPI, PhonePe and more. WhatsApp also says that platform does t capture UPI pin of any individual user.

How to use WhatsApp Payments feature

Receive Money

  • Once WhatsApp Payments is set up on a device, receiving payments is as simple as receiving messs 
  • If someone sends money through WhatsApp, it appears like a text mess along with details of transaction

Send Money

  • Open WhatsApp
  • Open chat with receiver
  • on attachment icon at bottom of screen
  • From list of options available, on Payment
  • Once WhatsApp Payments feature is set up, a user will need to enter amount to be sent
  • on Next
  • WhatsApp will confirm receiver and bank account from which money is to be sent 
  • on Send Payment
  • Enter UPI Pin on screen that appears to complete transaction

How to link a bank account to WhatsApp?

Users can d an active bank account that supports Unified Payments Interface. primary phone number associated with bank account must match phone number used to operate WhatsApp account. steps given below will solve all doubts related to how to link a bank account to WhatsApp.

  • Open WhatsApp application
  • Go to More or three-dots menu at top right corner of screen
  • Select and open Settings
  • Select and open Payments 
  • Tap on d new account
  • Accept WhatsApp Payments Terms and Conditions 
  • Tap on verify via SMS and on allow
  • Select a bank from list of banks that appears on screen 
  • Tap bank account which will be used for sending and receiving payments on WhatsApp
  • Verify last 6 digits of debit card and expiration date
  • on Done
