Why are Chinese apps still working and continue to appear on Google Play Store?

While the Indian government has banned most of the Chinese apps, they are still operational in the country. Why are Chinese apps still working? Find out

Government of India recently took an unprecedented step and banned as many as 59 Chinese apps in country. Inputs from intelligence ncies have revealed that se mobile apps have been used by developers as eir spyware or malware and are in clear violation of terms of us, compromising a user's privacy.

ban has been imposed under Section 69A of IT Act with relevant provisions of Information Techlogy (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009.

Why are Chinese apps still working in India?

TikTok, Shein, UC Browser, and ShareIt are some of widely used Chinese apps that have been banned by government. However, most of apps are still listed on Google Play Store and App Store. This means that users are still able to install se apps on ir devices and continue to use m.

TikTok is one of most popular names on this list that has been removed by Apple and Google and it is likely that or banned Chinese apps will also be removed in days to come.  government of India has issued a tice to both Apple and Google to restrict se applications on ir marquee app stores.

Why are Chinese apps still t banned completely?

Apart from getting Chinese apps removed from app stores, Indian government is also in talks with Internet Service Providers and telecom operators in country to help enforce a complete ban on se applications. Once se applications are removed from Google Play and App Store,  ISPs will need to blacklist every host-name and domain name that is associated with se Chinese applications for ban to come into full effect. To ensure a complete ban,  ISPs will need to stop data traffic on se platforms as data is one of major factors for se apps to stay functional.

ban will affect both new installations and existing users on se apps, although some of apps may continue to work, if t updated. However, it isn't clear wher users who already have se apps should voluntarily uninstall m or will re be a penalty for using m.
